Donate to the pro-choice fighting fund: help end the criminalisation of abortion in Australia

Right now in Queensland and NSW abortion is still considered a crime. Can you chip in to help win change, and prevent the anti-choice minority from hijacking public policy on this issue?

In Queensland an election could be called any day now. And for abortion reform to be a reality in the next year it's more important than ever to make sure that there’s a pro-choice majority in the next Queensland Parliament.

Before the most recent scheduled vote on this issue Fair Agenda members came together and drove local actions in their local electorates: meeting with key undecided MPs, flooding their local MPs with constituent emails, and delivering testimonies to MPs in their electorate offices. We amplified the voices of medical experts in online and newspaper adverts, made headlines in the Courier Mail, and made sure every single MP received polling showing that an overwhelming majority of Queenslanders support decriminalisation.

Now we need to take that work to scale - and get in front of voters and key candidates ahead of the state election when it’s called later this year, or early next. To win this fight our movement needs to have the resources to respond to whatever anti-choice groups throw at us.

Can you help by setting up a monthly donation to power Fair Agenda's pro-choice campaigning between now and the Queensland state election?

NOTE: Unfortunately, under current laws, donations made directly to Fair Agenda are not tax-deductible. If you require tax-deductibility for your donation, please contribute via our preferred donor relationship with the NFAW by clicking here, and selecting Fair Agenda from the 'organisation or fund' list under 'Donation details'.

The Queensland Government have just referred the decriminalisation of abortion to the Queensland Law Reform Commission, and made a public commitment to introduce legislation based on its recommendations. That means there will be another vote on this important issue expected next year. But nothing is guaranteed.

The only way to end the criminalisation of Queenslanders' healthcare decisions is with a majority of pro-choice MPs in the next Queensland parliament.

We know 82% of Queenslanders support a woman's right to choose abortion - now we need to make sure their MPs do to.

In NSW Labor MLC Penny Sharpe has plans to introduce legislation to introduce Safe Access Zones around abortion clinics in NSW to prevent the harassment of people entering the clinic.

There's also a risk that controversial MLC Fred Nile will also bring his proposed bill to vote -- one that legal experts have warned would operate as a Trojan Horse on abortion right in the state.

If the past few months have shown anything, it's how well resourced the anti-choice minority are on this issue. Can you help us amplify the voices of the pro-choice majority?
